Work

  • Press Release

Dow press release announcing Steven Swier as the winner of the SCI Gordon E. Moore Medal.

  • Editing Work for Dow

As an internal copywriter for the Dow Edge Team, I earned the moniker “word ninja.” Often, I would edit verbose website and advertising copy written by ad agencies.

  • Midland Daily News Article

I didn’t interview for the position at the Midland Daily News because my news writing teacher referred me. They sent me to a junior high band concert. I was sitting in the audience listening to a bunch of off-key instruments thinking “what in the heck am I possibility going to write about this?” The next morning, it was a front page story.

One of many, I like this sample because you can see the humor writer in me peaking through the guise of objective journalism. I moonlit as a freelance writer 05-07. I wrote various feature stories and had a regular monthly article in Verge called “Fashionality.”

  • Full Marketing Plan

When Consumers Choice Credit Union hired me right out of college, they said their marketing was unsophisticated.

I used every resource available to conduct research and write a comprehensive marketing plan —while also opening new accounts, servicing loan applications, and wearing many hats. We were a very small credit union.

  • Marketing Plan for Board of Directors

Here is the same plan condensed for the Board of Directors.

  • Social Media Work

I have managed social media for various professional organizations, but from start to finish, Joylady Merrymakings was all my creation: content, copy, and graphic design.

Needless to say, it’s a fun side hustle, and I am so grateful to be paid for classes that aid my own health and well being.

  • Edited a Book for Publication

In 2021, I was the editor for the children’s book Read with Twiggy.

  • More Social Media

After years of training in different movement modalities, I designed my own class—Joy Dance Fitness. I created all graphic design, content, and social media. I also have a fair amount on Insta: the_joylady.

At the height of JDF, I had a fancy website and clients reserved classes through acuity! Due to time constraints, these days I do seasonal “Joy Dance Fitness” pop-ups when I get the inspo.

  • Creative Nonfiction

I’ve been working on my book since graduate school. It’s about 70% complete.

It does have a title, but I am careful about sharing my intellectual property online.
